What is the aim of
the Fund?

The aim of the fund is to promote the education (including social and physical training) of young people between the ages of 11 and 24 years old.

Where does the grant
money come from?

The Fund's history is linked to that of Bishop Fox’s School, which can be traced back to 1522 and Richard Fox, the Bishop of Winchester.

In 1940 a new Bishop Fox’s School was built by the Local Education Authority, and the redundant school buildings and site remained with the Charity.  The lease and then sale of these created a fund and the annual income from this provides the grants.

In 1991 the Charity was re-established as the Bishop Fox’s Educational Foundation with the aim of benefiting young people in Taunton Deane to enhance their education. In 2026 the fund became part of Somerset Community Foundation.
How is the Fund's
income spent?

Every year, we award around £180,000. to students, schools, colleges and groups supporting young people within Taunton - creating a legacy of achievement and opportunity.

The BFEF grant scheme is administered through  Somerset Community Foundation.
